New Contributor!

Hi! My name is Mike Hamilton, and I've been officially photoblogging for just about 2 years, currently at http://www.michaelhamilton.ca

Recently, I discovered the Images Alberta Camera Club in Edmonton. I decided to check out a meeting (at Allendale Jr. High School, 6415 - 106 Street in early January. Coincidence would have it that Dale Hudjik (of Spun With Tears) was the speaker that night, discussing photoblogging!

I've since participated in a print competition, and taken part in a photography outing to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village on Hwy 14, where we had full I've really enjoyed taking my learning off the internet and into more face-to-face contact - and I've met a few good people in the process! If you're interested, check out ImagesAb.com

We meet on the second and fourth Thursday from September to May from 8 to 10pm. Check it out for 3 meetings before you join! There's a wide range of abilities and interests to keep everyone happy!

Fait Accomplit Release Party

I posted information on submitting to Fait Accomplit a few weeks ago.  Photos and writings have been chosen and the release party is set:

  • Where:  Deweys
  • When:  Friday, November 18, 2005
  • Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

I have a poem and a photograph published beneath the pages and will likely be giving a short reading as well as having a couple of photographs on display.  Dennis Pozniak (otherwish known as Mech, whom I ran into earlier today by chance) will also have a photograph published and will also be showing some of his amazing photographs.

Do come out if you have a chance, it should be fun.  Also, do let us know if any of you are also being published - inquiring photobloggers want to know : )

photo show

One of my photos and one of duke's photos were recently published in this book.  How very exciting.  The book is wonderful and full of amazing talented writers.  The book launch is today Friday, October 21, 2005 at City Hall.  How exciting.  Even more exciting is that a group of us photobloggers are involved in a photo show being held in conjunction with the book launch.  Myself, Duke, Chris, Anne, Matt and Ren along with a couple of other wonderful photographers who also have photos in the book, Skylinejunkie and Dennis Pozniak (founder of the moblog, Seeshare) will all be displaying a sampling of our photography, printed and framed for viewing pleasure.

If you live in Edmonton and have a chance, do come down and check us out.  Also, be sure and check out the book, some talented writing and some lovely photography of our fair city.

Huge kudos out to the lovely and talented editor, Heather Zwicker as well as those fabulous people over at NeWest Press!!

Hub Cigar Burned Down :(

I was just on my way to school this morning on the bus, there it was... A gutted Hub Cigar and the Framing place right next to it.  Looks like the fire did enough damage that they'll have to tear it down...  In my opinion it's a pretty big loss, If anything has survived all the changes on Whyte Ave. it'd be Hub Cigar, not to mention they always had the imported magazines I wanted and if not they'd order them in...  Many hours spent browsing photography mags in there.  Of course this is the only day I don't have a camera on me, so if anyone was interested in catching a historic Edmonton moment you might want to run down to Whyte at some point today...  I really hope Hub comes back :-\

More gallery offerings...

First of all... Congratulations Daisies!  Wow... you leave home for little more than 29 hours and suddenly, a new community has sprung up out of nowhere. ;-)  Well done, sweetie.  I look forward to getting to know all those who participate and to seeing this wonderful space develop (pun intended) and flourish.

Now then, though it is not photoblog related, I thought since we're mentioning gallery showings, I might add another to the milieu.  Here's a handbill (see below) from a new Latitude 53 showing of collected works from some local Edmonton artsies, including none other than my infamous nephew, Ted Wright.  Do stop by if you have a chance.  Thanks all, and enjoy.

UofA BDES Grad Exhibit

This is my first post and I want to start by congratulating Daisies for getting this site up so quickly.  When she first sent the e-mail I figured it'd be at least a week or two before she had anything organized but here it is!  Design is nicely layed out and easy to navigate, now we just need to flood it with content ;-)

Not sure if there's any sort of 'rules' as to what we should or shouldn't post here but I figured this was fairly photography related and some of you might be interested in this.  April 12-23, the University of Alberta Bachelor of Design Graduates Exhibition will be held in the Fine Arts Gallery.  The opening reception will be held Thursday April 14th from 7:00-10:00PM, not sure if they'll have snacks/drinks or anything like that but I'd assume they'll have something.  The gallery itself is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00AM to 5:00PM  and Saturdays from 2:00 to 5:00PM and is found on the first floor of the Fine Arts building on the UofA Campus (just walk in the front door, you can't miss it.)  Should be a lot of great artwork and photography to see down there.  Unfortunately the Grant MacEwan Design Grad Exhibition was last week and ended on Friday, if you made it down to see some of the work that was shown in the City Center Campus then you'll have a feeling of what to expect at the UofA show.
