Hi! My name is Mike Hamilton, and I've been officially photoblogging for just about 2 years, currently at http://www.michaelhamilton.ca

Recently, I discovered the Images Alberta Camera Club in Edmonton. I decided to check out a meeting (at Allendale Jr. High School, 6415 - 106 Street in early January. Coincidence would have it that Dale Hudjik (of Spun With Tears) was the speaker that night, discussing photoblogging!

I've since participated in a print competition, and taken part in a photography outing to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village on Hwy 14, where we had full I've really enjoyed taking my learning off the internet and into more face-to-face contact - and I've met a few good people in the process! If you're interested, check out ImagesAb.com

We meet on the second and fourth Thursday from September to May from 8 to 10pm. Check it out for 3 meetings before you join! There's a wide range of abilities and interests to keep everyone happy!

Submission for the next issue is still open, and this time there are three categories: Big, Self-Portrait, and Hometown. It's not too late to submit yours. And while your deciding which of your many great images to submit, go check out my HOMETOWN, and SELF-PORTRAIT submissions, and vote YEAH if you like any of them. I've been slacking on my photography and blogging, so I need some boost like getting published in JPG mag. Have them votes coming, will yah? ;)

From the JPG team:

Dearest JPGgers,

Exactly two years ago today, JPG Magazine began with a simple mission
to honor the amazing work coming out of the online photographic
community. Today, six issues later, the humble project that began with
a Gmail account and a dream is growing up. Come see!

http://jpgmag.com

There's a lot that's new, including memberships, more themes, and
voting! And there's even more new with the magazine, including a larger
format, more pages, more frequent publishing, and a much lower price
tag! And did we mention that, if you're chosen for publication, you'll
get $100 and a free subscription?

And this is just the beginning. We've got big plans. Very soon we'll be
making subscriptions available for the first time, ever. If you're
interested in subscribing (and we hope you are) be sure to sign up and
we'll let you know when they're available.

Today also marks the opening of submissions for Issue 7! Unlike past
issues, this one's got three themes: Big, Self-portraiture, and
Hometown. As usual you can submit one photo to each, but now there's
three, so that's 300% more chances to get published!

But enough talk. C'mon in. Check out some photos. Vote in the themes.
And submit your excellent work now, because Issue 7 closes in two
weeks!

It's been a helluva two years. Thanks for JPGing with us. Keep
shooting, baby!

This week's spotlight goes to Jesse of Fotographix. It was a tough week especially since last week was missed so I thought it only fair to go through the crazy beautiful amount of photos for the past two weeks. Wow - we have so much talent in this province people!!

This photo is incredibly emotive in colour and composition and I personally have a secret (or not so secret) love of all things filled with holga plastic goodness. I know that I adore my little piece of the plastic freeze frame : )

This photo is simply titled 'Holga' and leaves it to you to interpret as you will. Of note: it was taken in the rain and the film was pushed to 400 and cross processed which adds something wonderful here. Its good to be experimental!

Jesse has a photoblog at Fotographix as well as a flickr account at Defrosterj's Photos and he is the founder of Defrost a Calgary based network which has been showcasing talent since 2002. Good things!

It looks like Calgary is about to start their own Calgary Photobloggers (http://wiki.photoblogs.org/wiki/Photobloggers.org_Network) so I think it is time to dissolve the abphotoboggers as it is called. We choose to go Alberta Wide because at the time, there were not as many photobloggers listed in either Edmonton or Calgary alone but this landscape has changed.

So I have a couple of options here depending on what others think:

1. Switch this to Edmonton Photobloggers (and area of course because I would not like to exlude the red deer/fort mac/rocky mountain house folks).

2. Cancel this completely if interest is not high in the Edmonton area to keep this endeavour going.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! : )
