changes ... need input!

It looks like Calgary is about to start their own Calgary Photobloggers (http://wiki.photoblogs.org/wiki/Photobloggers.org_Network) so I think it is time to dissolve the abphotoboggers as it is called. We choose to go Alberta Wide because at the time, there were not as many photobloggers listed in either Edmonton or Calgary alone but this landscape has changed.

So I have a couple of options here depending on what others think:

1. Switch this to Edmonton Photobloggers (and area of course because I would not like to exlude the red deer/fort mac/rocky mountain house folks).

2. Cancel this completely if interest is not high in the Edmonton area to keep this endeavour going.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! : )

Hiatus Go Bye Bye

Hello fellow photobloggers,

I have been gone for such a long time but the site has been revamped and updated and hopefully will continue to grow and change. I would like to apologize for my absence though as most of you know, I had very good reason. If you don't know and are interested, you can view the reason for the past 5 month absence from most things internet here.

And now down to business:

1. Notification List. If you have received a notification and don't wish to receive them, please email at alberta.photobloggers@gmail.com and your name will be taken off the notification list. If you are reading this and are not on the notification list but would like to be, please email at alberta.photobloggers@gmail.com and you will be added.

2. Contributor. If you would like to be a contributer, please let me know. A contributer will have the ability to add posts. These posts can be about upcoming events, photography challenges, photography advice ... well pretty much anything photography related. The less rules around this the better I am thinking. Please email at alberta.photobloggers@gmail.com and you will receive access and instructions on posting here. The more the merrier!!

3. Flickr blog. I have opened the photoblog to include those who only have a flickr blog. Please let me know if you want your personal blog or your flickr blog or both listed on the sidebar. Again, shoot me an email at ... you guessed it ... alberta.photobloggers@gmail.com.

4. New members. There are some new members, please welcome Sarah @ http://www.arimneste.com/blog/; Larry @ www.flickr.com/photos/swanee; Daelen @ www.daelan.com; Cindy @ http://www.openaperture.net; Wolfgang @ http://wolfschl.blogspot.com/ and Vanessa @ http://edmontonphoto.blogspot.com/. Do check out their sites, some wonderful photography here!

5. Works Art and Design Festival. Dale of http://www.spunwithtears.com/ is curating an exhibition during The Works 2006 Festival. There are more than a few of our very own abphotobloggers who are having photographs displayed as a part of this exhibition (myself included). I would like to Congratulation all the abphotobloggers who are included as well as encourage others to go and have a look at this exhibition which features photographers from around Canada. It is being held Sutton Place and starts on June 23, 2006. Very exciting!!

I am hoping that we can plan future events, meetups, shows, exchanges of ideas and just general community building - please do get involved in one way or another!!

Progress Update on Redesign

Hi Everyone,

As you may be aware, I am in the process of redesigning and moving this site away from Typepad and over to Movable Type.  Things are going well and am confident that I will meet my deadline of November 30th.  Stay tuned for a brand new format that I am hoping everyone will enjoy!

november's big move

I'm going to be moving this entire thang over to movable type.  I recently made a hosting move and upgraded to a paid version of movable type so that I could host multiple domains and have multiple blogs and multiple authors.  Since I am paying for that space anyway and it will cost nothing extra to have this over there, I am moving abphotobloggers.  I will likely be doing a wee redesign and so forth.

I will keep you updated on my progress with this but stay tuned for the newness.

tweaks and starts and stuff

I'm trying to do some design stuff mostly with the intent of showcasing some our our flickr photoblogging group photos - there might be some weirdness over the today and through the weekend while I attempt to figure it all out.  Please bear with me if you see some crazyness.  thanks all!

new domain name

Hi everyone.  I have been working with Brandon Stone, the man responsible for photoblogs.org and photobloggers.org (and all associated) with regards to setting up a dns so we have a photobloggers.org domain.  As I relayed to most of you, I really wanted to go more global (i.e. Alberta based) rather than city (i.e. Edmonton based) for a couple of reasons.  Alberta is a fairly small population base and we just don't have the photoblogging action that a place like Toronto or New York does and I really want to build community across our diverse and wonderful province.  Ergo ABPhotobloggers.

With regards to the dns though Brandon is going with city.photobloggers.org and he has some good reasons for that which fit into his larger vision and I respect that.  Basically, the city name acts as a hub of the larger.  Regardless of the domain, I consider this site to be an Albertan Photoblogging site and so nothing changes but the name (http://edmonton.photobloggers.org).  The previous domain (http://daisies.typepad.com/alberta_photobloggers/) also links to this site so you can change your link or leave the same.  Either will get you here.

I hope everyone understands that I had to pick a city name and because I wanted to be fair, I chose Edmonton based on the feedback I received in the original email I sent out.  Some said, I should go with Edmonton as that is where I was located.  Some said I should pick the city that has the most photobloggers signed on.  Edmonton fit into both of these suggestions.  Thank you for understanding that this was a difficult decision to make and I appreciate your feedback regarding this.

Either way, it is just a domain name and it is the content that really matters here and the participation of all of us living here in Alberta land :)

glitches and kudos

If you have any problems posting, please let me know and I will do an author resend.  There seem to be some glitches as is to be expected when working with new technology and a clueless geek girl like myself.

Lorien - your logo looks fantastic fabulous! Huge kudos on your wonderful design work ... all that AND great photography.  wow!

Wow... We're rolling!!!

Darlene, you're sure on a roll here, girl! You've made it all come together so quickly... Kudos to you! All looks great, and feels even better. Check your mail... I've sent two little gifties ;-)).

Nice to see few familiar faces around. I think we're going to have a blast :-).

Things are moving fast

My big thanks to Darlene for pulling this one off, sooner than everyone expected. And also to Lorien for offering to do the site's design, I'm sure it's gonna be great!

Though we are starting really small, I know our community would soon be bigger.  The timing is just perfect as winter's definitely behind us, and Alberta photogs that hibernate on winter would definitely start coming out to shoot.  We just have to find them and lead them here =)

Cheers to all of us!

Oh by the way, I got lucky being dragged by my wife on a barbecue picnic with her friends last weekend.  It was at Hawrelak park, and I had the opportunity to shoot some birds around the pond area.  Go see my photos hereThe best spot I think is the farthest from the main entrance, south-southwest part of the pond I think.

odds and sods

Came across this cool little magazine called Plastic Fantastic for toy camera lovers.  Looks interesting and is available worldwide.  All you holga owners should definitely check out the submission guidelines.

Lorien of JoLoLog has offered to do the graphic design for our alberta photobloggers logo and I saw a preview of it tonight - it is utterly fantastic.  She does great work but I'll let you all be the judge of that in a couple of days when it is finished and incorporated onto this site.  I'll bet you're all as excited as I was : )

Carlo over at Macro Day has issued this week's challenge: fruit.  Sounds like a good one to get creative with!

Wow and thanks....

Daisies, the site looks fantastic! Thank you for your very hard work. I look forward to following and learning from all the great Alberta bloggers who have joined up.

new beginnings

Hi everyone.  A brief update.  I am working on getting us an address, this one is temporary for the time being.  I have heard back from a few of you and have added you to the links bar - you will be receiving an invite to be able to post in the very near future.  This is a draft design and there is more I want to do - and of course any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  If you have any ideas for linkage, zap me an email and I'll put them up.  Please feel free to add more categories, etc.

If weird things go on, it's likely me tinkering with the design.  I am working on a banner but if anyone has any burning desire to design something, let me know 'cause I am definitely not a graphic designer but I'll do my best.

Introduction to the Weblog

This is the first unofficial post of the alberta photobloggers.  I am including all of Alberta because we are a small group though I am hoping that will change in the future.  I have noticed on my travels that there are a great many people out there with cameras in hand from digital to film to holgas and crapcrams walking about bent over in unusual positions snapping away.  I suspect as the weather warms, more and more cameras will be seen.

I will be working on the design over the weekend in an attempt to bring this here site to life and encourage participation.  There are some amazing photobloggers in Alberta who constantly provide me with photographic inspiration and are always willing to give advice and provide new insights.  I hope that this weblog will become a place where we can all share our knowledge as well as have some fun building community.
